Inoculated oaks and hazelnuts on volcanic soil. Ten years in the ground, waiting.

Around 110 inoculated oak and hazelnut trees were planted on the property roughly ten years ago. They've been dry-grown — no irrigation — in the same volcanic soil that feeds the olive grove.

This winter we're bringing in a truffle dog to see what's below the surface. The Macedon Ranges has the altitude, the cold winters, and the right soil chemistry. Whether the trees have delivered is the question we'll answer this season.
